Dorothy Collier is the mixed media artist of Dorothy Art, a creative that brings a strong sense of whimsy and maximalist grandmillenial vibes with every aspect of her life she decorates. From the oil painting she creates for your living room walls to a birthday celebration tablescape for her friends and family, Dorothy believes in surrounding oneself with colorful pieces and bringing out the extravagant from the ordinary.
While growing up in the south, running around her grandmother's antique shops, she quickly found a love for all things unique...and antique. Dorothy's artwork becomes narrative and she create a sense of whimsical beauty and in some pieces, hopes to prompt the viewer into a child-like happiness. She uses simplistic elements to mirror her folk art influences and enjoys using quick gestural lines to give the vintage subjects a strong, soulful voice.
Dorothy is the host of Positively Creative, a podcast for creative entrepreneurs, which has topped the iTunes charts at #5 in Art & Design. In 2017 Dorothy founded the Memphis Chapter of the Rising Tide Society to celebrate community over competition and uplift the creative entrepreneur with free business education, quickly leading Memphis to house one of the biggest of the 450+ international chapters, with 1,000+ local members. With the help of the local creatives' enthusiasm, her co-founder Abby Phillips and she built Arrow Creative, a one-roof creative district, which ignites the creative spirit in all Memphians. Arrow houses studio spaces, retail, co-working, creative entrepreneur advancement, community art workshops, summer arts youth camp, and more.
Dorothy received her B.A. in Studio Art and Psychology from the University of Mississippi in 2009 and her MAT in Art Education at the University of Memphis in 2011. She resides in Memphis, Tennessee with her husband, John, 4.5 year old Johnny, 1 year old Coco, and their yorkie, Oxford. Dorothy's work appears in private home collections and gift retailers throughout the southeast.
